Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
I hope you’ve had a restful Saturday.
We’re past the now officially in the second half of February. I’m still amazed at how quickly we’re running through 2025, making the Psalmist prayer in Psalm 90:12, KJV, my prayer, too.
Thankfully, through the Proverbs Series, we’re learning how to apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Today, we explore one more dimension of the outcome of our encounter with wisdom, building on the transformative outcome of the wisdom encounter shared in yesterday’s letter.
If this is your first time reading a #DailyFollowers, welcome to the family. We’ve been on a journey through Proverbs, and this post lists all the thoughts shared so far.
Now, let’s get into the protective outcome of the wisdom encounter.
The Text
Proverbs 2:11-15, EXB
11 ·Good sense [Discretion] will protect you; understanding will guard you.
12 It will keep you from the ·wicked [evil path], from those whose words are ·bad [perverted; twisted],
13 who ·don’t do what is right [abandoned the road of integrity] but ·what is evil [go on dark paths].
14 They enjoy doing wrong and are happy ·to do what is crooked and [with their twisted] evil.
15 What they do is ·wrong [confused], and ·their ways are dishonest [they go on wrong courses].
Some Thoughts
Wisdom protects us from the wicked in two ways: it guards us from their evil ways and bad words and protects us from their wrong actions and dishonesty.
Wisdom protects us from the wicked's evil ways and bad words. Our encounter with wisdom will set us on a path that keeps us from following the path of wicked people and away from their cruel words that add no value to us.
Wisdom protects us from the wicked’s wrong actions and dishonest ways. Our encounter with wisdom teaches us to walk on the highway of integrity, a pathway the wicked abandon for the dark paths.
One Question To Ponder
Am I leveraging the protective powers of God’s wisdom in my life?
Our world is increasingly getting dangerous.
If you turn on the news, you’ll see one more thing to be concerned about that wasn’t an issue yesterday.
How do we stay protected in a world filled with much more danger than we can imagine?
God’s wisdom provides a good sense and understanding to keep us safe while navigating life’s perilous roads.
Conclusion
It was Jeremiah who shared this insight about the nature of the human heart in Jeremiah 17:9, EXB:
9 “·More than anything else [Above all things], ·a person’s mind is evil [the heart is deceitful; the heart is devious/crooked] and ·cannot be healed [desperately wicked; it is perverse/sick]. Who can ·understand [know] it?
The wickedness in our world is on the rise, and we need wisdom to stay safe from the evil ways, bad words, wrong actions and dishonest ways of the wicked.
Without a consistent encounters with wisdom. As daily followers, we must consistently search for wisdom, as we can’t live safely in the world as we know it without it.
As Solomon said, wisdom is the principal thing; in all things, getting understanding. It will keep you safe.
Yours faithfully,
