Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
How are you today? Really, how are you? I sincerely hope you are doing fine.
We often gloss over thinking deeply before answering the question, ‘How are you?‘ mainly because we believe it’s just one of the polite ways to start conversations.
I’m learning to be intentional in reflecting before answering the question because, who knows, my answer could open the door that would help my day become a lot better.
So, I ask again, how are you today? Please think carefully about it this time.
We continue our journey through Proverbs today with the first words from Lady Wisdom.
Before I proceed, let me quickly recap some thoughts from yesterday’s letter for someone joining this journey today. You can also check out this post to see all the other letters in the series.
Yesterday, we met Lady Wisdom and established that she speaks—not only does she speak, but she yells. She yells so we can hear her insights above the loud noises of busy business, government, and social interaction hubs.
Today, we listen to some of her yelling. Her words will provide valuable insights and guide us on wise paths to the good life.
The Text
Proverbs 1:21-22, EXB
21 She cries out ·in the noisy street [at the top of the noisy throng] and shouts at the [entrances of] city gates:
22 “You ·fools [simpletons; immature ones], how long will you be ·foolish [immature]? How long will you make ·fun of wisdom [mocking so dear to you] and hate knowledge?
Some Thoughts
The noise in our world will get louder. Noisy streets and shouts at city gates have been a part of human existence for so long. It was a reality in King Solomon’s day and remains a reality even now. Yet, Lady Wisdom cried and continues to cry today.
She cries out to all who hate the insights she provides by choice while mocking her. Lady Wisdom calls them fools [simpletons; immature ones] and wonders how long they will continue in their foolishness. Wisdom doesn’t come to us from the passage of time but by making choices to listen to the voice of Wisdom.
“Yet, Lady Wisdom cried, then, and continues to cry today.” God loves us so much that He won’t let us go on paths that lead to our destruction without providing the prompts within us that force a rethink, realignment and repositioning. We must consistently choose to listen to the gentle voice of Wisdom.
One Question To Ponder
In what areas am I being a fool, ignoring the cries of Wisdom?
If we’re brutally honest in our reflections, we will find at least one area where we haven’t been prompt in listening to the voice of Wisdom. Investing in intentionally growing our capacity to listen to the cries of Wisdom in the area where we’re deficient unlocks growth that contributes positively to our quest for the good life.
Conclusion
All Lady Wisdom asks from us is to pay diligent attention to the insights she imparts through her words.
The change that our ‘simple’ act of paying attention can unlock is massive. When we intentionally and diligently listen to the voice of Wisdom in all areas of our lives, our outlook on life and our life outcomes will be very different.
Dear #DailyFollower, don’t let the cries of Wisdom fall go unheard and (or) not listened to. You want to be a different breed from the lot Lady Wisdom speaks about in Proverbs 1.
Until you hear from me again tomorrow, I'd like you to invest some time diligently pondering today's text and the question for the day.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
