Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
Happy Wednesday! We’re halfway through the week, and I hope you’re pressing forward with strength and purpose.
As we continue our journey through Proverbs, we shift focus to a topic many of us would rather avoid—discipline. Nobody enjoys correction at the moment, but as Solomon teaches us, embracing God’s discipline is key to walking the wise path to the good life.
Suppose this is your first time reading the #DailyFollower newsletter; welcome! I’m grateful you’re here. Feel free to explore the previous letters in the Proverbs Series, where we uncover wisdom for living a fulfilling life.
Now, let’s get into today’s thought.
The Text
📖 Proverbs 3:11-12, EXB
11 My ·child [son], do not reject the Lord’s discipline and don’t ·get angry [loathe] when he corrects you.
12 The Lord corrects those he loves, just as ·parents [fathers] correct the child they delight in.
📖 Proverbs 3:11-12, AMPC
11 My son, do not despise or shrink from the chastening of the Lord [His correction by punishment or by subjection to suffering or trial]; neither be weary of or impatient about or loathe or abhor His reproof,
12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
Some Thoughts
Correction is a sign of love. When God disciplines us, it’s not to harm us but to guide us back onto the right path. Just as loving parents correct their children for their well-being, God corrects us because He delights in us.
Discipline refines our character. God’s correction may come through circumstances, conviction, or wise counsel. While it may feel uncomfortable, it ultimately shapes us into the people He created us to be.
Our response determines our growth. We can either resist God’s discipline and stay stuck in our ways or embrace it with humility and allow it to produce wisdom and maturity in our lives.
A Few Questions To Ponder
How do I respond when God corrects me?
Do I resist and complain or trust that His discipline is for my good?
Conclusion
Have you ever experienced God’s discipline—perhaps through a challenging situation or a moment of conviction? Looking back, can you see how your journey through this situation was an expression of God’s love?
Today, I would like to challenge you to embrace discipline as a tool for growth. Instead of resisting correction, ask God what He wants to teach you through it. The more we yield to His guidance, the more we mature in wisdom and walk in the fullness of His plans for us.
Let’s welcome His discipline, knowing it’s proof of His deep love for us.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
